So next up is communities of practice. Well, it’s actualy really simple. A group of people share a common interest and the discuss and practice said interest. It’s as simple as that. It’s like if people took all of their PLEs and started to share them within a community. If you like to breed dogs, you meet up with dog breeders and discuss techniques. Then you go off and do dog breeding stuff. It’s a great way to intermingle professionals and amateurs on a certain subject. That goes for web developers, game designers, martial artists, whatever. If you have a skill, or an interest in a certain skill, you need to find a community of practice and participate in it openly. That’s what this guy happens to think.

That was an interesting way of putting it how you said it like a combination of people PLE’s to form a community of how to operate together. It really is sucha simple concept, people with similar interests are going to get together and talk about how to make that interest better for them, and others, people are going to interact with others that enjoy the same techniques and interests that they have.
Ok, i really didn’t think of things like that and that is a good way to see it. I agree with you that it is pretty simple the way this is said. I like how u have put things about this communities of practice.
“..Its simply, to simplify..”
thats what sums up your blog man. some really good points you made. this is from a new angle that I didnt really see from. Thats a hell of an idea.. taking all of our PLE’s and forming a community.. it’ll be a pretty BIG organization because if you think about it.. no ones PLE is the same.. some common ground perhaps but it can break off into little sub groups and so on…some good axamples as well… dog breeding… LOL..

Here’s a question or two for you.
I agree that Communities of Practice is like having a PLE and forming a community of it. However, do you think that CoP is another step of PLE or is it the next generation of PLE?
Second, and I would like to quote you on this, “If you have a skill, or an interest in a certain skill, you need to find a community of practice and participate in it openly,” So, if you do have a certain skill, does the community of practice that you are involved in only applies to what skill you own, or can you apply the skill into something else?
